We are very grateful to all our fantastic fundraisers across the UK. We feature as many as possible in our community magazine, Inspired, which is published three times a year and covers fundraising news and events both in your area and nationally. If you would like to send stories and photos for the next edition of Inspired contact your Regional Fundraising Manager.

Here are some extra examples of how you are helping to raise money for the CF Trust.



Gemma Rawles was discharged form hospital just in time to host her Mad Hatters Tea Party Ball on Saturday night.
Her IV's attended too!!Gemma dressed as the Snow Queen had spent 6 months planning the event and she wasn't going to miss it !

Lon Las Cycle 2012
This will be the fourth year that a team from BAESystems L&IS have organised a cycle ride, taking in one of the national cycle routes over a weekend. This year it was the Cymru Lon Las ride, which covers over 250mile running from Holyhead in the North of Wales to Cardiff in the South
The team was Paul Anthony, Steve Apps, John Mears, Vicky Moretti,Dave Heaton, Helen & Keith Singleton and Tom Watson. Support in the form of a Landrover was provided by Sue and Peter Melvin. To date they have raised over £1000 in donations from friends and colleagues, their generosity matching previous years, meaning they have raised over £3000 over the years.

A cheque for £5,500 has been presented to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust by Suffolk County Council Chairman, Patricia O'Brien as she marks the close of her year in office. Over the course of the year, the Chairman supported her chosen charity with a series of money raising events for the Trust, from quizzes to stalls at county council offices. A huge thank you to Patricia and all the staff at Suffolk Council offices.
Kimbolton Prep School

Kimbolton Prep School held a sponsored 'practice-athon' - the children were sponsored every time they practiced their musical instruments. During the month-long campaign the pupils raised a staggering £4,687.76.

Alice Gardner presented the cheque to CF Trust Regional Fundraising Manager Sandra Howarth during CF Week. Congratulations to everyone for their fantastic support.


London to Paris
As part of a wider fundraising activity to raise £5000 for the CF Trust Roy Find, Marcus Smith and Mark Gleen are riding London to Paris as part of the Do it for Charity ride.

They have recently hit the £4000 mark and to coincide with the start of CF week, they held a Charity Ball on Saturday 28th April in Ipswich to raise additional funds to get them nearer to their target of £5000. The event was a complete sell out with 80 people attending. The evening included live music from a local band 'The Alibi Club', Casino tables with croupiers and a buffet. They also held an auction and raffle on the night with prizes kindly donated from local businesses.

Waitrose in Norwich
Partners at the Waitrose store in Norwich were inspired by one of our dedicated CF Trust supporters, Mr Bradley to hold a CF Trust Fun Day. Cakes were baked and sold, raffles were won and lost, donations were made. In total £780 were raised by all the staff - thank you.

A big thank you to Claire Morris, Laura Bartholomew and Alicia Osborne who are taking part in the London Trekathon on the 13th of May 2012. Their original aim was to raise £500 but they have smashed this target and their current total is £1146. They recently held a cake sale which raised a further £380.

John Dobner & Mark Richardson - two granddads completed 82 miles of the Essex Way.
The men walked through the glorious Essex countryside and had a great turnout on the final leg into Harwich, thank you all who turned out! Quote from the men 'YES WE DID THE ONLY WAY IN ESSEX, WITHOUT THE NEED TO WEAR STILETTOS' So far the two have raised over £6,000

Highfield Humanities College
Emily Bonney with Peter Westhorpe, Deputy Head Teacher of Highfield Humanities College, who is presenting a cheque for £300 to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as part of their £600 in 6 weeks challenge

James and Emma Mealing of Essex have a six-year-old son, Luke, who has Cystic Fibrosis. James works for Blue Flame Services who celebrated 25 years of successful trading this month with a fantastic dinner and dance held at Colchester United Football Stadium. As part of the event they held a Grand Raffle with some excellent prizes including a trip on the Orient Express. To enter the raffle a minimum donation of £10 was required with all proceeds going to the CF Trust, and a wonderful £870 was raised.

Runcorn Family Fun Day

Natalie Clarke and Stuart Randles along with friends Karen Randles and Mark Schroeder organised a Family Fun Day in Runcorn as part of their support for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and raised £2500. A great time was had by all.

Pets at Home Fundraiser

A big thanks to the staff and customers at the Pets at Home Store in Coventry who helped raise £471 from their in-store fundraising event which was held on the 18 and 19 of February.

Christine and Barry Mason

Christine and Barry Mason of Norfolk, recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Their family and friends generously donated £426 in lieu of presents. On behalf of everyone at the CF trust congratulations and thank you.

Claire Jordan

Mrs Claire Jordan of Forncett St. Peter, Norwich organised a Christmas coffee morning on December 3rd complete with Father Christmas and mini Xmas cakes and raised a staggering £730. Thank you to Claire and all
the village who turned out to support her.

Supporter Steve Budd organised 'Groovable presents GrooveFest 2011 Band Night Fundraising Event' featuring a selection of local bands and artists.

A Fantastic Event for the Trust

The Breathe Again Party held at the Kensington Roof Gardens in October was a fantastic event for the Trust organised by Sasha and Christy York from North Yorkshire whose son Charlie aged 7 has CF. Wonderful auction prizes were offered by family, friends and colleagues and the party goers were extremely generous bidding for fabulous lots raising over £204,000 at this vital time for the Trust to help our fund Gene Therapy. Also present as TV sports presenter Ben Shepard and Matthew Reed our CEO who spoke about the urgency of our £6 million appeal.

Sam Arrowsmith completed the Inaugural Tonbridge Half Marathon and said : ''As the father of an 11 year old with Cystic Fibrosis I'm well aware of the need to raise funds for such a vital cause. This is my fifth or sixth CF fundraising run and there's no doubt it was the toughest. It was very hot and hilly and I'm not getting any younger! However I managed to raise £2,115.00 (excluding gift aid) so it was worth every step of the way. This year all of the money I raised went towards the 2012 Gene Therapy Appeal - the trust are doing everything then can to keep this work going and I wanted to do my bit to help ensure that it does! ''

Joanna Lawley
Joanna Lawley organised a sponsored bike ride in memory of her brother Chris and raised over £2700.00 .

Joanna said: "My brother Chris passed away on Easter Sunday this year. Before his death, I had already planned to complete a sponsored bike ride, on my 16th birthday, to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis. Chris suffered with
Cystic Fibrosis for the 31 years of his life. He was a real fighter, brave, dignified, never complaining and lived life to the full. Chris has inspired me to make something of my life, we only get this chance once, so live each day like it will be your last :)."
Tabetha van der Lande

Tabetha van der Lande (11) made a pitch for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as the charity for the Year 6 fundraising day on Founders Day in July at Burgess Hill School for Girls. Tabetha's brother, Hugh (15), has CF and she managed to beat five other charities in her bid. The Day was great fun, the Year 6 ran stalls of all kinds and raised an amazing £761.81 for the Trust. Here Angee Holford (Sussex Branch coordinator and mother to James (17) who has CF) received the cheque on behalf of the CF Trust.

Emma Harris and her husband Jonathan organised a Clay Pigeon Shoot and Fun Day at Cambridge Gun Club. Everyone had the most brilliant day and raised over £2,800 for the CF Trust

Jayne Simpson

London to Paris Cycle
A very big thank you to Jayne Simpson, Helen Grice, Donna King, Sophie Tyrrell, Charlotte Gilroy, Leslie Schoeck, Fiona Stones and Aimee Cook who took on the epic trip of cycling from London to Paris.

Jayne said: "We all absolutely loved the three days - it was tough, and self-navigation was exciting, but hard. At one point we estimate we were around one mile from Paris but 17 miles later, after following a 'scenic route' that we had printed off the internet we finally caught sight of the Eiffel Tower. Despite the times when I personally felt I wanted to lose my bike and get on the next train/plane/boat home, every second was worth it to raise money for CF and to try and
do just a little bit to help everyone who has to deal with it every day."

The group so far has raised a wonderful £4,272.34. Thank you!

Royal Holloway University of London annually raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. With no exception this year they raised a fantastic £600 at their annual Garden Party. A big thank you to Principal Paul Layzell, Beryl Byne, Joan Faulkner and Hazel Orchard, pictured.
Sara Cluderay

Sara Cluderay
Professional singer and singing teacher Sara Cluderay decided to set herself the challenge of entering a music exam on an instrument that she hadn't played since she was seven - a recorder. In taking on this challenge, Sara raised an amazing £298.50 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and also received a distinction in her exam. Congratulations!
Keegan


Stuart Swan is running the Dublin marathon in October to raise funds for the CF Trust and Keegan. He also held a Car Boot sale to raise sponsorship.

Stuart said: "I had heard of Cystic Fibrosis but had no idea the challenges it presents those who have it. Keegan is the nephew of my mate Jo and when I read his story it really touched me and has inspired me to go for this race as it's my 5th marathon. I have never managed to come in under four hours but this time I have a feeling I might just get there. Having a car boot sale really helped boost my totals so ask your friends to donate any clothes or books they don't want - you will be amazed what people buy!'' www.justgiving.com/stuart-swan1
Pooh Sticks Race Winner

Lisa organised a Pooh Sticks Race at the Teston Bridge Kite Festival last weekend and raised over £300 for the CF Trust. She would like to thank all those who supported her event including the very proud winner seen here in the photo.




Andy Hart is the proud father of Joshua (seven years) and Jacob (six months) who has Cystic Fibrosis, and like many other people touched by Cystic Fibrosis Andy decided to get involved in some fundraising.

At his workplace, Aviva in Norwich, he organised a raffle for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. He applied to local companies explaining about Jacob's condition and how there is a shortfall in funds.

With seven exciting prizes including a signed Norwich City Football Club shirt, and three months membership in an exclusive gym, he got underway in selling tickets priced at £1 each and raised over £727. Andy said: "I was overwhelmed with the support my colleagues showed in raising funds, to aid my son and other sufferers, and to help the drive to find a cure."
Golf Day

On Monday 25 July Grims Dyke Golf Club High Handicap Section with 96 other players had a fantastic day playing golf with a ball sweep and raffle which raised £800 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Organisers Ray Simpson, Vicky Hughes and others would like to say a big thank you to all who attended and helped raise money for a worthy cause.

Walley Family

Congratulations to the Walley family on their magnificent achievement in climbing Mount Snowdon. What's even more amazing is that five-year-old Ben also made it to the top. The family raised an outstanding amount of £2,000 for the CF Trust.


Big bounce

The weather wasn't kind to Angie Ranshaw from Haverhill. Her Big Bounce was a bit of a washout but those who did cope with the weather had a brilliant time.



Sandra Brand


Sandra Brand, with the support of other members of Chelmsford Lioness Club, held a street collection and raised £260. In addition, Sandra's granddaughter Casey held an event at her school and raised over £17.

Sandra is pictured with her daughter Michelle and grandchildren presenting the cheque to Sandra Howarth. Sandra's twin granddaughters, Georgia and Megan (aged 15) both have Cystic Fibrosis.
Moorhouse and Nicolas

Peter Moorhouse and Shaun Nicholas have successfully competed the London to Paris Bike ride. The 330 miles were both physically and emotionally demanding but so worth the pain! Huge thanks to them both.



Ipswich abseil

Fourteen daredevil abseilers took part in the annual Ipswich Abseil at the beginning of July. Their inspiration was Kerry Thorpe who has CF and is waiting for a transplant. The group have raised over £3,000. A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the challenge.

Jesse and Lucy

Jessy Ahluwalia of Cambridge decide to organise a quiz night; she was motivated by her friend Lucy who has CF to hold a fundraising event. The event was a huge success and raised an amazing £1,200. Jessy is pictured with Lucy at the event.







Fakenham Walk

Sharon Moore of Fakenham inspired a group of friends and family to 'stride out for CF'. The group walked round the one- mile circular course of Fakenham racecourse ten times. Everyone had a brilliant time and will have raised over £2,500. Thank you and well done to all the walkers.

Wickford Garden Party

Joe and Mary Chesney of Wickford, Essex organised another one of their fantastic garden parties for all their family and friends. The band played all afternoon and well into the evening making the party an event to remember. Over £2,156 was raised. A very big thank you to everyone, especially the band, who made the party so special.

Cake Bake

Lisa, Tim, Luke (who has CF) and Hannah Copsey held a garden party at their home in Daws Heath, Essex. Despite the wet weather they raised £250 for the CF Trust. Everyone enjoyed delicious cakes and hot drinks, Hannah raised money selling books and running hook a duck and Luke challenged anyone to beat him at Fifa on the PS 3. Luke's nanny provided a huge jar of sweets which was won by Jorge who almost guessed the number of sweets in the jar correctly. The Copsey family would like to thank everyone who helped and attended the event and others who gave donations.


London to Paris


Julia Snedden, Amelia Cloud, Carolyn Greensmith and Catherine Greenstreet together raised £15,000 cycling from London to Paris. The dynamic four said: "The ride was a real challenge for all of us as we had never cycled further than our local park! It was so rewarding, great fun and great to meet other people raising money for CF on the trip. We raised over £15,000 for Cystic Fibrosis."

Ipswich Press Ball

An evening of glitz, glamour and fundraising, the annual Ipswich Press Ball took place earlier this month at the Ipswich Town Hall & Corn Exchange. Over £16,000 was raised of which the CF Trust will receive £10,000.



New Suffolk College

Students at New Suffolk College were inspired to 'do something' special in memory of one of their fellow students Georgia Ball, who had CF and passed away last year. The students put their best feet forward and completed a seven-mile beach walk and also organised cake sales. Their fundraising efforts raised over £1,000.


Stow Market High School

Students at Stowmarket High School recently took part in a non-uniform day and raised over £600. Lucy Gooch, pictured handing the cheque to Sandra Howarth, has Cystic Fibrosis and her art project about her living with CF was the inspiration behind the fundraising day.


Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Thank you to the 126 participants who took part in the Great Strides Botanical Garden Walk in Birmingham on 22 May. A wonderful day out in a beautiful setting all the while raising funds for the CF Trust!



Coleman and Company

Thank you to Coleman & Company (Demolition) in Great Barr, Birmingham who held a karaoke evening in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust raising £1,429.

The event was held on Friday 20 May at Goal's Soccer centre in Birmingham. Special thanks to employee Karen Woodward, who organised the evening and who is pictured presenting the cheque to CF Trust Regional Fundraising Manager for the West Midlands Martine Grainger.

During the spring term the girls of Young House adopted the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as the worthy recipient of their fundraising energies for their allotted Charity Week. Having worn bunny ears (for the Year of theRabbit) and traditional crazy tights, they also held a Chinese New Year-themed lucky dip and baked literally hundreds of cakes, cookies and cupcakes. The result of all that energy, enthusiasm and dubious (their words!) cooking skills meant that the girls were delighted to hand over a cheque for £1,500 to Sandra Howarth, the CF Trust Regional Fundraising Manager.

On the 9 April 2011 Harrow Weald was lively with friends and family of the Simpsons digging deep into their pockets and helping to raise over £2,000 for a charity very dear to their hearts - the Cystic Fibrosis Trust!

The Stephen MacRea Annual Pool Competition in Dovercourt was as successful as ever. Over £814 was raised on the day and a special bonus was local girl Lillie presenting £301 which she raised at her recent sponsored swim.

As part of the students Innovation Week, the pupils had a fundraising week of events. The team called 'Strike a Pose' chose to support the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and raised over £185 by selling photographs which they took during the week.

The Lady Captain of Hill Valley Golf Club, Whitchurch Helen Beard has chosen the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as her charity for support for 2011/2012. Pictured here with her Vice Captain Brenda Siertsema, Helen has an array of events planned for the coming year.

Shh Darryl's Fundraising!
Darryl Elm's from Miles Platting in Manchester had to test his will power to the limits when he decided to do a solo sponsored silence. He didn't utter a single word between 9.00am and 3.00pm while at school, despite being tickled and talked to by his fellow pupils. Darryl wanted to raise funds for the CF Trust as his two cousins have Cystic Fibrosis.
Sadie Stainfield

Thank you to Sadie Stainfield and everyone at Barclays for organising a great day at the new branch in Islington, London. Through collecting, raffles, selling lollipops and more £1,370 was raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. It was a joy meeting Sadie's son Stanley who has CF and was the star of the day!

Friends of Dylan Samuels (holding the cheque) at King David Primary School in Manchester kindly chose to donate the proceeds of their school shop to the CF Trust. The school raised £307.73 which was then generously matched by a parent to total a wonderful £607.73! Thank you and well done everyone.

Anna Ashton from Woodbridge, Suffolk has twin granddaughters with Cystic Fibrosis. She organised a musical afternoon with the help of family and friends which raised over £2,000. Pictured are all those who performed for over 150 people.

Joe and Mary Chesney of Wickford in Essex hosted a Black Tie New Years Eve party for family and friends. Their two grandchildren with Cystic Fibrosis, Sydney and Christopher, are the inspiration for all their fundraising. Their party raised over £238.

Julie Smith

Julie has a head for heights
Mum and manager of Sainsbury's Cheadle Julie Smith raised £500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust by taking part in an abseil at Manchester's Trafford Centre on Sunday 26 September.

41 year old Julie abseiled 220 feet from the top of the Barton Square Campanile (Bell Tower). She said: "We have chosen the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as our Charity of the Year at Sainsbury's Cheadle and also when my daughter was born prematurely she was tested for CF so I have some understanding of what it's all about. I was pretty apprehensive before the abseil but I knew I had to go through with it so I just focused on getting down!"

With little Jonathan Lynn as their inspiration an array of stars from pub and club land came together at the Dutton Arms, Blackpool for a very special End of Season Charity Bash, which raised £6,200.


Masquerade

Caroline Street from Liverpool, whose cousin Stewart has CF, along with family and friends organised a Masquerade Ball at Christ the King Parish Centre to raise funds for the CF Trust. Over 125 guests donned masks of all shapes, sizes and designs and raised £3,300.

Congratulations to Dominic Casby who cycled 950miles from Land's End to John O' Groats in just 12 days and raised £1,500.

With four-year-old cousin Laura as her inspiration, Gemma McGowan and boyfriend Graeme Gibson pedalled their way from Land's End to John O' Groats to raise £3,172.








Royston Runners
Members of the Royston Running Club donated £500 to the CF Trust from their Summer Ball raffle, organised by Maurice and Maureen Gisby. Carl Pledger, whose daughter Amalie has CF, is an active member of the club and is pictured with Maurice and Maureen handing the cheque over.

80th Birthday celebrations
Reg Cole celebrated his 80th birthday and instead of gifts asked for donations to the CF Trust. Family, friends and Reg's granddaughter Holly Houston, who has CF, were all there taking part in the celebrations. A total of £580 was raised - thank you and happy birthday Reg!





Moonlight Colourthon

Sue Tremlett and a group of friends took part in the 13.1 mile Moonlight Colourthon Walk in Southend. As Sue said: "If we can do it, anyone can!" If you'd like to join in the fun next year's walk is on 2 July 2011.

Sue Sands, a CF grandparent from Kings Lynn, organised a fantastic party for friends and family and raised over £400. An evening of fun, canapés and wine was had by all.

Burlesque Ball
After Becky Conroy had her lung transplant she and her parents (John and Sue) decided to organise a fundraising Burlesque Ball. The evening was a huge success with amazing outfits and entertainment. The profits were split between the CF Trust and Papworth Transplant Unit. Becky and her parents are pictured with Debbie Sparkes (2nd from left) who is Chair of the CF Trust Cambridgeshire Branch.

Tremendous Triathlon
Dave Seymour of Colchester has never been scared of a challenge or three, so earlier this year he took part in the London Triathlon. He finished it in fine health and also raised over £1,300 for the CF Trust. Dave is now resting up and thinking about what to do next!







X-factor fans - support the CF Trust and win!
Dentist to the stars Dr. Jeremy Hill, his wife Linda and sons Matthew and James are to take on the ultimate Disney Challenge for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. On Friday 7 January 2011 the family will complete the Disney World 5K run, on Saturday 8 January Jeremy and Linda will both run the Disney World Half Marathon and on Sunday 9 January Jeremy will take part in the Disney World Marathon! The Hills are supporting the CF Trust as Matthew's best friend has Cystic Fibrosis.

Lexi Rees organised a Halloween and 80s ballads themed Party on 30th October. The event was held in memory of Lindsay Tripp and raised an incredible £1,400 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Cathy Curtis and Jane Coates held a Pampered Chef fundraising evening; tickets were sold for the event, which included a donation bar, raffle and demonstrations by Margaret Kendle, assisted by Mick Wolfe. Margaret kindly donated 20% of the sales which resulted in a generous donation of £912.00.

Nikki Green (wearing the white t-shirt), from Reading, persuaded 16 friends to enter the New Forest Rattler cycle challenge - but by the time they went to sign up it was fully booked. Not to be deterred, Nikki found a similar suitable route in Berkshire and the Tour de Berkshire was born. Despite the wet and windy conditions the 17 made it to the finish line (AKA the Queens Head in Bradfield!), having stopped long enough in several hostelries en route to collect nearly £200. Another £1,700 was raised via their online giving site.

Recently married Paul and Sara Jackson, from Betley, Staffordshire, asked for donations to the CF Trust instead of wedding gifts. They wanted to help friend Bert (pictured centre), who has Cystic Fibrosis, and raised a whopping £2,000. Congratulations and thanks!





100 Mile Bike Ride




100 mile bike ride for Cystic Fibrosis
A group of four friends cycled 100-miles from Malvern to Aberystwyth to raise money for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.

Kris Box, a 25-year-old from North End Lane, came up with the challenge in honour of his younger sister, who has Cystic Fibrosis. He roped in the support of three Malvern mates, Jon Joyce, aged 25, Brinn Jardine (CORR), aged 24, and Tom Fulcher, aged 25, to join him on the two-day journey.

Chris Newman along with Frances Hayward, Jenny Ware and Simon Walls, all members of staff at the Ken Stimpson Community College, Peterborough, took to the skies on 3rd July from Sibson Airfield, Peterborough and all completed a tandem skydive.

They all had such an amazing time that they want to do it all again! Between them they raised £2,704!

Bedford Blues star Duncan Taylor had his famous dreadlocks removed last week following the Doncaster Knights game as players and fans dug deep into their pockets to raise well over £1,000 for the CF Trust.

Club chef Nos Thomas had laid on a range of curries for the event, which also included a charity auction. The honour of the cut was bestowed on Rob Crowle's daughter Sarah, from Nicolas Anthony in Bedford.

Following a generous donation, the bar was serenaded by Blues fly half Myles Dorrian who gave a rousing rendition of Andre Bocelli's Con te partirň (Time to say goodbye).

Eve Golightly decided that she was going to make the most of the Bank Holiday weekend and arranged a football tournament as well as a fun day for all the family.

Although the weather wasn't as good as it could have been, a fantastic day was had by all and £700 was raised.



Dai Dunning
40 miles for 40 years
Dai Dunning from Llanelli in Wales celebrated his 40th birthday in January with a 20-mile run and 20-mile cycle to raise funds for the CF Trust. Dai, whose daughter Ffion has CF, was delighted to raise £500 from his challenge.
