Door to Door Clothes Recycling
We are delighted to announce the launch of CF Trust door to door clothes recycling. After a successful trial, we are now rolling out the scheme across the country. Working with a commercial partner, The Precycle Group, bags are now being dropped through thousands of letterboxes.
The scheme has raised over £206,000 since it launched in January 2009 and with your help will keep on growing.

What time will you collect the bag?
The collection will take place anytime between 8am and 6pm, on the day marked on the collection bag.
Are you collecting every week?
No, the collection will take place once in about 6 to 8 weeks in any particular area.
How do I know when the collection day is?
The collection day is stated on the collection bag. Usually the collection day is 3 to 4 days after you receive a bag. For example if you have received the bag on Monday with the collection day Thursday on it, the collection will take place only on the Thursday of that week.
Who collects the bags?
The bags will be collected by our commercial partners "The Precycle Group". All the collection vans will be clearly marked with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust logo's on the side of the vehicles and all the stock collectors will have personal identification with them. If any unmarked vehicle collects your bag or if you suspect any unusual activity, please contact us on 0844 870 0407 immediately.
What happens to the things I donate?
Once the bags have been collected they are sorted, graded and recycled or sold for reuse. Once they have been sorted and graded, the good quality items are then sold. The poorer quality items are recycled and even the plastic bags are also recycled. The final destination for all donations is either in the UK or Europe, and this is dependant on obtaining the best possible price in order to maximize income for the charity.
How much money does the CF Trust receive?
The CF Trust is paid per tonne of textiles received, this works out as roughly a 50/50 split of the profit after costs have been deducted.
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust has raised over £100,000 since the scheme started last year and the income has been increasing each month, so it is a very successful way of raising funds for us.
Why does the CF Trust choose to work with a commercial partner?
We use a commercial partner as it is the only way to make door to door clothes recycling a viable fundraising mechanism for us. The Precycle Group pay all the set up and running costs; they have bought vans, employed people, manufacture, deliver & collect the bags and then sort and sell on the items for us. It is an absolutely massive and specialist business which we just don't have the budget or expertise to get involved with directly.
What items do you collect?
Items we do take :
Adult's/Children's clothes;
Shoes
Hats
Bags
Belts
Curtains
Towels
Bed linen
Books
Items we do not take include:
Furniture
Electrical Goods
Pillows/Duvets
Mirrors
Breakable Goods
Videos/CDs/DVDs
It is important that you remember to pair shoes by tying the laces together, or joining them together with an elastic band. We take all types of textiles, even items that are ripped or with buttons missing.
Where should I leave my charity bags?
Please leave your bag on the pavement outside your house and make sure it is clearly visible.
Can I leave additional bags?
Of course, please make sure the bags are water-tight and clearly marked for the charity.
What do I do if I miss the collection or my bag is missed?
Very rarely your donated bag may be missed during the collection process. If this happens please call 0844 870 0407 and we will arrange to have your bags collected. We will be unaware of any missed bags if they are unreported to us.
