Your questions answered
Do I have enough to leave a legacy?
People
often think that you have to be wealthy to leave a legacy. This is certainly
not the case, as any amount left to a charity will be gratefully received and
make a difference. Past legacy gifts range from £500 to £300,000.
Is it necessary to have a will?
Making
a will is the only way you can be sure that your wishes will be followed after
you die and will save your family a lot of extra worry. If you die without
leaving a will the legal system decides how your possessions are divided,
irrespective of your wishes.
Isn't writing a will expensive?
No,
on average it will cost you £100 to £200 to have a simple will written. This is
a small price to pay for such an important document, and to avoid potential
problems to your family if you don't have one.
What about home-made wills?
Home-made
wills can be disastrous. You may omit particularly important details, or
inadvertently write sections in a way that can be misinterpreted.
I have a family to provide for. How can I remember the CF Trust as well?
We
understand that family and friends come first, but once you have provided for
them in your will you can also remember the CF Trust with the whole or a
portion of what is left over.
What are the tax advantages of leaving money to charity?

Donations
to charity are exempt from tax, so anything you leave to the Cystic Fibrosis
Trust is free of Inheritance Tax and we will receive the full amount. Your
solicitor will be able to advise you about the best ways to use your will to
reduce tax. You may find our
additional information about inheritance tax
useful.
Do I need to tell you that I've included the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in my will?
No, it is entirely up to you, but if you are happy to tell us we would like to be able to thank you and keep you informed about the work of the CF Trust.
