Q: What are the tax advantages of leaving money to charity?
A: If you leave money and possessions worth more than a set value, currently £285,000, your beneficiaries (the people you're leaving it to) may have to pay 40% Inheritance Tax on the amount over that threshold. £285,000 may seem like a great deal of money, but if you include your home, you could find your savings and possessions add up to more than that.

Donations to charity are exempt from tax, so anything you leave to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust is free of Inheritance Tax and we will receive the full amount. Ask your solicitor about the best ways to use your will to reduce tax.

Q: Do I have to leave a lot?
A: No, it's up to you. We all need to provide for our family and friends first. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust would be very grateful for any amount you are able to afford and all donations are highly appreciated.

Q: Do I need to tell you at the Cystic Fibrosis Trust that I've included you in my will?
A: It's not essential, but we would be delighted if you chose to, so we can say thank you. Simply contact our Legacy Manager on 020 8464 7211 or by email at legacies@cftrust.org.uk. Any information that you give us will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Q: What will it cost me?
A: When your solicitor is next updating your will simply ask them to include a donation to your favourite cause, It doesn't need to cost anything extra if you are already revisiting your will.

Q: I want to leave a gift to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in my will - what should I do next?
A: Simply tell your solicitor you want to include the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in your will and what you want to leave, and they'll make the necessary changes. Along with our name and address, you'll need to tell your solicitor our charity registration number that uniquely identifies us. The information you need is:
