"Who started Christmas"?

Who started this Christmas thing?

This morning I heard a story on the radio of a woman who was out Christmas shopping with her two children. After many hours of looking at row after row of toys and everything else imaginable, and after hours of hearing both her children asking for everything they saw on those many shelves, she finally made it to the elevator with her two kids.

She was feeling what so many of us feel during the holiday season time of the year---overwhelming pressure to go to every party, every open house, taste all the holiday food and treats, get that perfect gift for every single person on our shopping list, make sure we don't forget anyone on our card list, and the pressure of making sure we respond to everyone who sent us a card.

Finally, the elevator doors opened, and there was already a crowd in the car. She pushed her way into the car and dragged her two kids and all the bags of stuff in with her. When the doors closed, she couldn't take it anymore and stated, "Whoeve r started this whole Christmas thing should be found, strung up and shot."

From the back of the car, everyone heard a quiet, calm voice respond, "Don't worry. We already crucified Him."

For the rest of the trip down the elevator, it was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.

Don't forget this year, to keep the One who started this whole Christmas thing in your every thought, deed, purchase, and word. If we all did it, just think of how different this whole world would be.

Jesus Christ, is the Reason for the Season

Sorry to burst your bubble sweatpea, but Christmas has nothing to do with Christ. Even the Christ in Christmas has nothing to do with him.

Christmas is a pagan ceremony which pre dates Christianity by a few thousand years and is centered around the winter solstice and the longest night. Originally gifts were given on Xmas eve (as in most of the rest of the world today except for us Brits)to help sustain you through the longest night and into the new season. Saint Nikolas is another separate story which I may relate later.

As with every other Christian festival, it was hijacked from the non christian religions to make it easier to convert the "WICKED NON_BELIEVERS" This is historical fact, unlike the hysterical fiction preached by most religions. All religions are man made, and though there may be a grain of truth in them, after all, every major religion tells basically the same story, just the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

This does not make any religion bad, or better than another, but it does show how the human race have been fooled by the propoganda, all over the world, since time began.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Yew and may the blessings of your God go with you

Which is where the word "Yule" comes from!

Sweetpea ,I thought that was a lovely story ,Im afraid the TRUE meaning of christmas is being devalued year after year and soon it will be against the law for us to celebrate it in case it offends anyone .So make the most of it while you all can.

It is true to say that Christmas was placed at this time of year in order that it could "drown-out" older festivals and replace them, but it isn't the same festival, it is a different one placed at the same time in order to ease it's integration. I think modern calculations have shown Christs birth to be around October?? I do think though thst most people think "crimbo" is about who's number one in the charts, eating and drinking too much and watching re-runs of Morcombe and Wise on the tv. I doubt Christ would have wanted us all to be perminently miserable etc...but I think that celebrating his birth, even just a little bit, would be a little more correct that just looking forward to the office party to see who is the easiest shag.

There had to be one didn't there! I was just telling a story. I wasnt questioning anything. Wether you believe in God or not or if you celebrate Christmas because of Jesus. It was just a story I heard.

But I happen to celebrate Christmas because of the birth of Christ. Not because of some big fat man in a suit with a beard. And not because its a time where people think they have to buy the latest gadgets or the 'must have toy'.

So there!
