Moderation is the key, really.
All anti-bios say you shouldn't drink, and ideally you shouldn't, but what it really means is that it's not sensible to get "drunk" on them. Apart from anything else, if you end up being sick, you could bring the drug back up too and that would totally negate the point.
As far as regular, non-anti-biotic drinking goes, I don't think it hurts to have a few over Christmas. Personally, I don't drink, because it goes straight to my chest and I feel it the next day, however little passes my lips - it makes my chest heavier and sticker and harder to clear, so I've learned just not to take any alcohol and avoid the problem.
With a teenage son, I'd recommend my parents' approach, which was never to deny me (or my non-CF brother) anything. They never let us drink to excess, but if we said we wanted a glass of wine with dinner, or a beer before-hand or whatever, they'd let us.
It serves mostly to take away, or massively reduce, the theory that drinking is "wrong" and therefore a kind of rebellion, meaning you're much less likely to drink behind your parents' backs.
Hope you have a good time over Christmas and that you all stay well and enjoy yourselves.
