Hi to all, and seasons greetings!!!! I would like to ask if any others have had problems with m.r.s.a.? mainly getting rid of it and staying clear?? my son ian (4yrs wcf) had been colonised now for 18 months evry throat swab comes back with it, funnily enough the docs don't seem to worried, "as it is not bothering him" but he constantly has a runny nose and nasal swabs also come back infected. just wondered if anyone else has anything similar?? thanx, and it's good to be back after a break for adjusting to night feeds and colic!!!! all the best!!!

Hi,
my little one also grows MRSA and our consultant thinks the same - if its not bothering her we won't treat it (although she is younger than your son, 10 1/2 months). he said that if they start treating it with aggressive IV AB's then it can often "anger" the bug, whereas if left to its own devices it may just go on its own...

hope this is of some help, and you have a lovely christmas!

i always thought that m.r.s.a was a bad thing to have, although every time he has a cold they treat it with a broad spectrum AB and say if it's still bad after a week-10 days then we'll treat the m.r.s.a. but it never gets that far, but when they see him at clinc they glove up and put pinnys on and this scares him as he thinks he's getting a jab ( or holes as he calls them)but they say it's only in his nose and throat nowhere else,,, weird or what??

What the docs are mainly worried about is CF patients with respiratory MRSA spreading it all round the hospital so it gets to the surgical wards! That's where MRSA is most dangerous, as it can kill if it gets into an open wound.

When it's in the nose, throat or lungs the MRSA seems to do little or no damage, certainly not enough to make it worth giving them the powerful and rather unfriendly antibiotics needed to shift it.
