does anyone recieve this allowance. My wife only works 8 hours a week and so qualifies for the allowance, craig gets highest rate DLA, My question is does the allowance affect tax credits? how much does it pay, her wages are £42 week, what would that equate to in terms of carers allowance? a lot of questions LOL

Hi,
Yes the careres allowance is classed as earnings when you apply for any kind of benefits, tax credit being one of them. I can't say how much it will affect your benefit as each persons circumstances are different.

Hi, you can earn up to £79 a week before it affects you. The amount you get is £46 something a week. your wife is entitled so get on it! x

Carers allowance is for people who spend over 35 hours a week caring for a disabled person and is a set amount of £46.95 each week. As long as you earn less than £84 a week you can claim it, but it does count as additional income for tax credits purposes.

I work part time and even though caring for my daughter wcf means I should qualify for this allowance, I earn over the maximum allowed. Its a bit unfair as we still care for a disabled person for over 35hours but thats the way it is.

I get Carers Allowance, and at the moment it is £46.95 per week, but my main grievance with CA is that you can only claim one lot of CA, even though I care for BOTH my children wcf.

And yes, it does count as part of your yearly earning, but Tax Credits don't.

By the way, Tax Credits people should be notified if your child is on DLA, and I know that if they are on higher rate, the amount you get per week increases dramatically.

Carers allowance adds £2441.40 a year onto your income for tax credits. It only knocked mine down by £3.00 a week as it is a taxable income. But I dont work so i dont know how much your income is and how it would affect it. But as previously said Higher rate DLA does increase tax credits by quite a bit.

Yeh thats the thing we are wondering about, the gov' give with one hand and take with the other. The tax credits are quite high with the top rate of DLA, they determin someone with highest rate DLA, to be sverely disabled, bit of a shock, but hey if they want to give out extra money who am I to argue.
I applied on-line so we will soon know I guess, what we dont want is to be paid the £46 week and for that amount to be then taken of the tax credits, that would just be daft.
