Tom is on middle rate DLA. Will he have to reapply when he turns 18?

Sally 1 my son Dave is approaching 21 (in Jan) and has just reapplied he gets middle rate and has done over the years but always having to reapply every so many years, well this time result came back within 6week (must be a record) and he has now been awarded it for life (whatever they mean by that) anyway i did ask and they said he would not have to apply for it again, hope you get the same result

I think 16 is the time when reapplications are made, this is the stage at which the benefits agency starts treating applicants as adults and dealing directly with them. Mary -Anne.

How can we get him higher rate. I'm not sure what is the crunch point. What level of illness is necessary (sounds wiierd but you know what I mean) to get it?

You should always fill in the form and put when he is at his worst (When he is ill) whats the longest distance he can walk and how much he can do when he is ill.. I wasnt able to claim higher rate till I was 23 as I was classed as to well..

Best of Luck
