I guess everyone has their own reasons for wanting/having a port-a-cath. Although, I don't think better health is considered to be one of the advantages - unless you're talking about compliance issues.

Here's a few reasons I thought of...
-yes, there are many veins in the body, but there aren't that many sites where longlines/venflons can be inserted. Veins get damaged/scarred from repeated use and become more difficult to access.
-some people don't like needles and the whole process of having a longline/venflon can be very traumatic. Accessing a port is generally much quicker and much less traumatic in my experience.
-having a longline in your arm 24/7 for 2 weeks can be more restrictive than an accessed port. Plus the bandage gets grubby and stinks
-once a port is accessed for an IV course, there will generally be no problems with it, unlike with longlines which can get blocked easily and have to be re-inserted god knows how many times during the course. (Which is quite inconvenient if you're doing home IVs).

I'm sure someone else will give you a few more reasons
