Incapacity Benefit...

When I was in hospital in Oct my SSP finished as I have had 28 weeks of it, my employer hasnt writtten to tell me that it finished I just got my payslip and it was only for half of what I normally got.. So I have put in a claim for incapacity but obviously couldnt do that till I came out of hospital in Novemeber and I was told it will be back dated but I ve still not started to recive the incapacity yet and this means I have basically been living off my DLA since the middle of October.. The little bit of savings I had have now gone..

I have to pay £190 a month for my car, the only thing I have been getting help with is rent and council tax.. I have about £100 left in my bank and a few direct debits coming out for bills next week..

Im very worried as Im not sure when I will be getting anything and I cant afford to wait longer than another week.. How long did it take anyone else to get their claim through? If it takes till after xmas then Im in big trouble..

hi,
I think it takes about 10 weeks for any back dated claim to come back. You need to ring up the benefit help line and explain your problem. I don't know if there is more than one help line, the Chester number is
0845 600 3016,
Opening times Monday to Friday 9a.m. to 5p.m.
They should be able to tell you who is dealing with your claim.

We also have a welfare rights chap here in Wales, they know what benefits are out they and how to claim if you are entitled. It is worth giving them a call if you have one in your area. A chap came to see Tom and helped him fill in all the forms for DLA and he knew who to ask for letters of support, as Tom can't read and write properly this really helped. he also dealt with all the telephone calls.

If this fails ring your Local job centre plus and ask to speak to the supervisor, explain your problem and ask for help.

Hope this helps.
hugs L.K.
