A South Carolina mother has had her 12-year-old son arrested for opening his Christmas presents early.

The boy was taken into custody after his mother discovered he had entered his great-grandmother's house and taken presents from their hiding place.

The boy was handcuffed and taken to a local police station on petty larceny charges.

The boy's mother, Brandi Ervin, told the Associated Press news agency she had acted to teach her son a lesson.

"He's been going through life doing things... and getting away with it," she said.

He had repeatedly taken the present, a Nintendo video game console, from its hiding place in his great-grandmother's house.

Hyperactive

The boy, who has been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is already facing an expulsion hearing at his school for attempting to hit a police officer assigned to the school last month.

The boy's case will be presented to York County's Department of Juvenile Justice, which will decide what action to take.

Ms Ervin told the Associated Press she hoped the authorities could scare her son into behaving himself.

"It's not even about the Christmas present," she said.

"I'd rather call (the police) myself than someone else call for him doing something worse."

Bit daft aint it!

Isn't wasting police time an offence anyway? But then I suppose that's only when they decide you are wasting their time.

I agree with welsh guy, and tbh Merlin, I think you are almost being as bad as the people who have a go in disabled spots, because someone doesn't 'look' disabled.

ADHD is actually a neurological disorder and just like you can't stop your self coughing your guts up, people with ADHD can't help how they act. Read this and maybe you'll have some idea on what the disorder actually is, before you judge people on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention-deficit_hyperactivity_disorder

ADHD is very different to just having a naughty child.

I don't blame this child at all for going and continuely getting his present. From what it seems while reading it, it's the grandparents fault for not moving the present to a different hiding place.
Just like when you want food, but know you can't have any, the temptation to hunt some down is unbearable. I'm guessing with the child having ADHD that temptation was more than normal, coupled with the fact he already knew where the present was, and that it was something he really wanted. He's gonna keep hunting it down isn't he.

Christ almighty he only opened some bl..dy presents, get over yourselves.
I make no judgements on anyone, the fact is if i had done that as a kid,it would be viewed as bad behaviour. There always seems to be an excuse or something/someone else's fault !

Oh please Tamariki, like i said get over yourselves.Go to to the top of this topic page even Darkiesgem said 'its a bit daft aint it'.
I also notice you dont have a go at Darkman, for suggesting to 'throw away the key' ! Or am i just an easy target for speaking my mind. If that's the case then i'm guilty of being ignorant.
I must also be guilty of assuming the right to free speech!
This started fairly lighthearted,,lets keep it that way.

I meant it's a bit daft that there taking there son to court over this. I did actually try to edit and add more, like seconds later, but then someone posted as i was editing, so it wouldn't let me post the edit.

Also I did sort of reply to Darkman. But I also was sort of posting what I was going to post in the edit.

The fact that ADHD is a neurological problem kind of hit a nerve, when you said it's just the child being naughty.

As I was replying to you one of my close friends was trying to tell me this problem with my muscle's is all in my mind, and that i should go to the gym and get a job. I was also frustrated at him as he know's how much I'm struggling, and I love how he suddenly know's better than every doctor. At the same time I'm waiting to see the neurologist to see if it is a neurological response.

Sorry if i had sounded more frustrated at you than I had meant to.

As I say, just as yo can't help yourself coughing a child with ADHD can't stop the things that there brain is telling them to do. Unless I suppose if they become well practised at ignoring those responses. Kind of like someone with Tourette's I suppose. They can't stop the responses the brain is sending them. Just having a naughty child IS different to having a child with ADHD. A naughty child is generally doing things for the attention.

I AM trying to write this as a sensible debate, and not having a go. I just can't understand how you can see a child with ADHD as a very naughty child?
