I'm not 100% sure it is an ioniser, what's the difference between an ioniser and a purifier??
There is no water involved at all. It's basically a piece of plastic with vents at the bottom to suck air in towards a ceramic core. The core is heated hot enough to kill off any bacteria, germs, etc. There is also a blue light which can be seen so it acts as a nightlight too. The lit part at the top should feel warm to the touch - if it's cold then the core isn't heating so it's not working. The "clean" air then comes out of the vents at the top if I remember right.
We have a dehumidifier in the house too (great for drying washing in the winter and keeps our one single-glazed window condensation free), but are careful to empty it regularly and Ocean tends to steer clear of it anyway. I'm afraid I believe that pseudo is everywhere and a pwcf will catch it when the conditions are right for them regardless of what you do to prevent it. If he isn't going to play in it then I'm happy to have it here!
