Non CF related - naughty tom cat!

Hi all
Sorry to change the subject completely - but I'm starting to loose the will to live!

Last year we 'adopted' twin toddler cats from the Cats Protection League. They were 18 months old at the time and were both neutered. They didn't have a very good start to life, but in time, they learned how to play and do all things young cats should do (basically - they were spoilt rotten - especially by Lauren!).

Problem is, Billy sprays/urinates in the corner by the front door. I've searched the web, and this is apparently common when there are 2 cats, especially near a door since he's marking his territory.

I have tried absolutely everything. Washing the area with a biological soda, spraying with surgical spirit, washing with white vinegar, onions and also that very expensive spray from the vet - Felaway. Nothing works. On the very odd occasion I actually see him do it - I pick him up and take him straight out in the garden. Problem now is the 'smell' has seeped into my laminate wooden floor and I'm not sure I'll ever get rid of it. I'm trying not to loose my rag, but it isn't easy at this stage!

Any ideas please???

Have you tried sprinkling (or dumping a whole pot) bicarbonate of soda on the area and leaving it for a while and then hoovering it up? Not sure it will work in this case, but it's good for deodorising sick and urine smells on carpets.

Actually I have - quite by accident! I was sprinkling some over the area and the lid came off and it all spilt out! I think my main problem is it's now gone into the laminate.

Thanks anyway!

No helpful hints, but plenty of sympathy, as our cats (who now live outside, because we were concerned they were making Dylan's asthma worse, and they kept weeing everywhere, which obviously wasn't hygienic!) used to do the same, right by the front door. Lovely smell to walk in to!

We had to rip up the carpet and put down laminate flooring on top of the floorboards (with underlay underneath, so that the smell can't seep up), so I have no ideas, sorry.

Hope you can figure something out!

Message was edited by: BeckySerenDylan who wanted to say, when I meant live outside, they have the room off the back door (like a very basic conservatory) as their room, so their food dishes etc are in there, and they have beds in there too. And an electric heater in the winter.

i'm sure i remember someone saying to me not so long ago, that if you put the kittys food down where they like to urinate it can help..

wouldn't have any idea how to get rid of the smell though , but good luck!

If the cat is doing it in the same place all the time then try this

As you have done wash the floor with a mixture of biological washing powder and dry thoroughly, then grab the cat and get a clean hankerchief, rub the hankie all round the cats neck and mouth and place the hankie in the spot where you have just cleaned, the cat wont return there as it will smell its own pherermones

Hi
we had the same problem with our tom cat many years ago, we put down chopped oranges. apparently cats don't like citrus. It worked for our cat.
Good luck

Wow - thanks for all those ideas!

Yesterday I bought one of those 'Oust' air freshener thingys that puff out a spray every few seconds. I have it on full blast and Billy has stayed away from the area today! Don't know if it'll last - but here's hoping!
