Cats And CF

Sorry for my ignorance but as I have a newly disgnosed grandson with CF I am still a bit lost!

My son and his partner are supposed to be coming here for Xmas and I have 5 cats, they have flea drops every month and are wormed every 8 weeks so are clean but I wondered about the effect of cat hairs on a CF baby, I hoover every day but there are bound to be some floating about, will they irritate his chest?

Thanks

Jane

Hi
We have two cats and a 3 year old wcf, and have had no problems at all. (apart from stopping him chasing them!) We don't hoover every day either! Of course if he has
an allergy it may be different. my father wocf, has asthma and can't be in the same room as some cats.
Our consultant suggested we kept the cats out the bedrooms (which would be impossible!) but otherwise didn't seem concerned.
I'm more concerned that the dust caused by hoovering could irritate Joels lungs.

Hey!

I've got CF myself and when I was younger used to play with my neighbours cat all the time.

I then had two cats of my own and had so ill effects from either of them.

Any person can develop an allergy to cats, and if your grandson is unfortunate enough to become allergic then this will be a problem - and somewhat more of a problem for a little person with CF than for an otherwise healthy baby.

HOWEVER, there is no particular reason to suppose that he will suffer this problem, and he should be OK.

Watch out for symptoms such as developing a sudden wheeze, runny nose or redness on the skin after touching the cats, but otherwise ignore the issue.

Hope you have a great Christmas with your family, take care!

Richard.

Amelia is obsessed with Columbus and Dinky. We cannot keep her away from them. When we first brought A home from hospital they were banned from all bedrooms (where they always slept) but got impossible... they cried more than Amelia as for 11 years they've had the run of the house!Amelia even wakes shouting 'cats'chases them everywhere...We were so worried, but we are sensible, adn have to let her live, and what a great way for her to learn and respect living things.. shame they are so old now. they were always my babies before Amelia. So the answer.. she is well, so no effets from cats

Aww thanks everyone I can relax now

I think I was more worried cos when I had my daughter now aged 13 she came home from her birth and her eyes went all swollen, they said it was the 2 cats I had and I got rid of them...broke my heart! It later transpired she had blocked tear ducts

Heres to a great Xmas
