Help, supposed to go away, but little one coughing!

Ahhh, I'm supposed to go away for work for 3 days tomorrow, but little one is snotty and now coughing. The snot is clear (good) and the cough throaty (rather than chesty) but I'm still loathed to leave him. I really don't know what to do, as I don't want to let work down, but can't bear the thought of him getting worse and me not being there.

He will be with his Dad/our family whilst I'm gone, and he has had coughs like this before, that we've been sent home from hosp with, saying its just viral. But I can't help thinking of the what if's.

I'll be an hours flight away. Help, should I just let work down and cancel? (It can't be postponed, so if I don't go, the work just wont get done). Or go, and worry! P x

If you don't think you could focus on work while you were away then it'd probably best to cancel. But if you think that your husband & family can manage him while you are gone then soldier on

Hope your little one is feeling better soon. Tis the season unfortuately!

Best wishes

Hi Perdita, my son is 20 and over the last 19yrs since he was diagnosed, i have had cause to leave him (not many times but a few) you must go, i am sure he will be well looked after by dad and family, your life has to continue and yes i know its hard but don't let cf rule your life to the extent where your worried about leaving him, cuz before you know it you will be worried about even going shopping without him, you said you will be 1hr flight away from him and im sure deep down inside you would not leave him if he was seriously ill, do you think deep down you don't want to go and your looking for an excuse not to go, sorry if that sounds a bit harsh, but belive me been there done it and all will end well, what ever you decide to do i wish you the best,
love Tracie

Can you not start him on an extra Anti - bio to cover him?? We always take cefaclor if little one develops a cough??? along with fluclox. Might give you that extra peace of mind?? I think you should go as he will be with his Dad and family x

If you are happy that his cough is throaty, then it should be okay just to go away for a few days, but maybe mention while you're there that your little boy is ill, so if you do have to leave, then they'll know why.

Fingers crossed all goes well.

If he's with his dad and family, then I think I would be comfortable enough to leave, but also, it would be good for the responsibility to be on someone else's shoulders, eg, Dad's.

Ahhhhh, at what temperature would you start to really worry? His has shot up to 38 in the last hour despite the calpol.

We don't have another a/b in stock to start him on. He's already on colomycin nebs and Erythromycin orally, that's all we have.

Don't think I'm going anywhere at this rate! Will up date you all when I can. Thanks for the advice! P x

Oh no, we have bronchiolitis and an infection. We're in hospital now for 2 weeks of IV's.

Please send our little chappy all your well wishes, he is not a happy bunny!

Thanks, P x

Very sorry to hear that CF has thrown a spanner in the works. That is so typically the way things happen! I hope the poor little lad starts to feel better. Give him lots of love and hugs (until he gets embarassed!) and pass on our best wishes - GET WELL SOON!

Take care,

Richard.
