Whats wrong with me?

Hi,

This post will probably waffle alot and not make much sense but at the moment I just feel so confused any advice is desperately needed.

I have been up and down with my health for a few months. Breathing was very tight and I could hardly walk. After weeks of treatments, IV's, steroids, oral antibiotics etc that didn't make the slightest difference, my team thought I had asthma and gave me a tablet called phylocontin which made a huge improvment.

I was ok for a a couple of weeks and then started to get lots of little things, severe tickly cough, shakiness, sore throat that appeared to be side effects from all the drugs I was on They came and went and although annoying, I thought they would go away, which eventually they did.

Then I caught the virus that has gone all round work etc. I got it two weeks ago and went on some extra antibiotics to stop it going to my chest. I seemed to be getting better and last week went back to work. I had to come home as I was so bad when i got there, very weak, shivery, nauseous and extremely tired. My work are really good and told me not to rush back until I'm better.

However this is now my third week and I don't seem to be improving at all. First thing in the morning I'm rubbish then alot better by evening/afternoon. The whole time tho I feel drained and floppy. I can only wander about in the house and haven't been out anywhere since this started. I'm taking echinacea and vit C plus iron to build me up but nothing seems to help.

Whats wrong with me? I'm so fed up of this and am getting depressed as I always feeel ill lately. Its just one thing after another.

Hi Tor,
I'm afraid i can't help with any ideas, but i'm feeling very much the same at the moment. My chest is up and down, but the main problem is my complete lethargy and inability to actually get up and do anything- despite desperately wanting to. I feel like i've permanently got low sugars (but haven't)or like i've got lead weights attached to my limbs.
It was suggested to me that asthma could be the reasoning behind my recent chest probs too; as a succession of oral AB's and IVs haven't done much- infact my lung function has dropped considerably whilst on them!
Apologies for the ramble, and the fact i can't help- but you're definitely not alone in feeling rubbish and like no one can help. Add me on MSN if you want a sympathetic ear.

I've had the same sort of symptoms and on the last admission I asked if it could be asspergillus and they looked at my results and they saw that my IgE levelvs were creeping up so they put me on steroids and Itracozanloe. The steroids had a bad affect on my eyes so they have stopped but I'm still on the Itracozanole and they are hoping that might have an affect.

Hi Tor,

It sounds like you've got the same rotten bug that I have. It's a nasty one all right, I'm in the same boat as you, wretched tired, sleeping all sorts of odd hours and badly chesty (though the chest is passing off). It took my sister over three weeks to get over her dose of it, and I expect it will take me a similar time to get back to rights, or even longer!

I think all you can do is look after yourself until the virus has run its course. Stick with it - it sounds like your chest isn't going downhill, and the virus WILL burn itself out!

Thanks for the replies, they are much appreciated. Its made me feel better just to know I'm not alone. Heres hoping we all start to feel much better soon and this nasty virus burns itself out quickly!

Jess, I don't have MSN but thanks for the offer of a friendly ear! Hope your feeling better, the lead weight feeling you described is exactly how I've been feeling and its awful!
