We are finally home after a long three weeks. Mayleigh had a bronchoscopy at the Brompton which showed her right lung was blocked completly with what turned out to be Aspergillus. She was very poorly after the bronch and couldnt be transferred to our local hospital until she had started to improve.
She very slowly started to get better but even now she is not 100 per cent. Her lung function has come up slightly so thats good. She had a course of steroids to help bring down the inflammation in her lungs and has been back on hypertonic saline. I'm a bit low as this is the second time she has had a big problem with Aspergillus - last time it was her left lung. She isnt allergic to it but has an actual Aspergillus infection.
She was again using the Bird for physio which was really effective and has also now started on a pep. She has also been started on Voriconazole twice a day.
Although she still isnt completly well we have brought her home to have a break - we are off to Lapland next week!
Fingers crossed she stays well.
Andrea

Wow, you and Mayleigh have had a really bad time. I'm glad that, finally, things seem to be turning for the better!

Good luck for the trip, and I hope things continue to improve!

Take care, stay well, and keep up the good work!

Richard.

Hiya Andrea,

Huge giant hugs for you and Mayleigh! Sorry to hear that the bronch had bad results, but really hope that the new treatments help. She was bad after a bronch before as well, wasn't she, I remember you telling me in an email once.

Really hope that you both enjoy Lapland, and that it helps lift your mood hun. It's very understandable that your mood would be low after everything you have been through with Mayleigh recently.

Big hugs.

It is good to hear that mayleigh is improving Andrea, I don't blame you bringing her out of hospital for a break, just a small break can really help you all emotionally to cope better. Now Lapland is one place I would love to take my children,I bet mayleigh is really looking forward to going, the reindeer rides sound great there and have they got the ice-bar there? We take our son's to Norway every year but this year we are not going. The cold generally does not seem to effect him, we just make sure he is well wrapped up and his scarf over his mouth when he goes out at night, the cold at night seem to make him cough. I think it is when you breath in the cold air makes your throat feel sore. My son had a runny nose a bit and he found it funny that his nose inside kept icing-up. Not sure how cold it gets in Lapland, we were in North Norway, Roros and it gets really cold there - 40. We seen the Northern-lights and they were spectacular.from sunseasand.
