End up on the transplant list? Like is it something that is sure to happen?

Thanks

CF is progressive - so if you're getting regular infections, your lungs will be becoming increasingly damaged. Of course, drugs/treatments are being developed to try and decrease the rate of damage but in the end, most people will probably require a transplant.

Sorry I didn't mean to upset you! I know I can be quite blunt about CF sometimes - it's just the way I am and how I deal with it.

No it's ok, I wasn't really expecting happy answers anyway, lol ... but I appreicate your honesty. I spose in some ways it's better, b/c it's not like 'false hope'

Sarah - Try to think of it a different way.

It isn't that everyone with CF "ends up" on the transplant list. It is that unfortunately, as Laura says, CF is progressive. If it gets to the stage (like it has for me) where it has progressed to a very severe level, a transplant is an option you could look at to hopefully extend your life.

There are many adults who use this board who still have good lung function, who are living very full lives, and who are in their 30s, 40s, and a few people with CF out there who are 60+! Bearing in mind these people were born when the life expectancy was below 20, who's to say you won't go on and on Maybe you could find someone on your team or a close friend or relation you could talk to about all this? It is heavy stuff and it helps to have a sympathetic ear to sound out all your worries to.

The most important thing to remember is you just dont know. All you will do by going over and over the possibilities is wear yourself out mentally I know it's hard, honest I do, but I would urge you to invest some of that energy you are spending panicking about the future (and lets face it none of us know what it holds, CF or no CF) and concentrate on what you can do today

Don't spend too much time wandering down the evitability road! Just because you've got CF, it doesn't automatically mean you'll need a transplant. I'm 44, have an FEV1 between 78 % and 85% and grow pseudomonas intermittently. If my CF continues to progress as it has then I could die of a disease more associated with old age rather than CF. Like 'angel' (I think) said you really don't know what's around the corner and what treatments are pending.

Certainly not,Cf may be progressive but so has me been getting fitter and fitter over the years, which as long as i stay on top of trainning i shall get fitter its not always the case that with every year older you become more ill,i have cf am 28 and am fitter than i ever have been so i cant agree with that one,i dont have ivs physiotherapy so like the last person to comment im looking to old age sorting me out first before cf does!
