Just heard it on the radio.

Maybe now CF will have a strong enough voice in Government to fight for free prescriptions.

They said on tv this morning that the story was leaked to the newspaper by a member of staff at the hospital the little lad is going to in Scotland. Chequebook journalism is not very nice. The family should have the right to privacy.

They are making a massive deal about it just because its Gordon Brown's kid don't you think?

With the treatments available now and in the future the child should have a good quality of life so I think the news went a bit overboard last night.

Given how much of the news is given over to nonsense about Z-list celebrities, I think a 'human interest' story about a very prominent politician on the world stage is bound to be very big news. The story is made all the more poignant as this child's parents cradled their dying daughter in their arms only a couple of years ago. My friends tell me it made the major news bulletins in France, Germany, the US and Australia too and not just here.

Personally I don't think that the newspaper should have been allowed to publish the story based on a leak as even politicians have a right to a private life. It should only have run if the family themselves decided they wanted to go public and they should have been given the opportunity to think about if and when they wanted to do this - not be 'outed' by a tabloid.

I think much of the coverage has been positive - and as you say, has stressed how greatly improved the prognosis is for people with CF than even 10 years ago.

A new baby born with CF is huge news - normally just to family members and friends though.
Gordon Brown is a very prominent member of our society so this news was bound to hit the headlines.
No matter what their profile is, this news will be as shattering for them as any parent.
I think to say it has been announced because an election is coming up is harsh and thoughtless to say the least.
The advantages for us will be good, CF being on every front page is fantastic for raising awareness, that will lead on to awareness regarding transplants and organ donation and many people who haven't got round to signing the organ donor register might be prompted to do it now.
I think the Browns will make fabulous parents to a CF child, but I wouldn't have wished that on anyone, especially after the tragedy with their daughter.
I hope their little boy stays healthy and sees lots of benifits from new trials and gene therapy. He's in good hands.

They will have wanted time to get their heads round the fact that their son has cf i don't think i have fully come to terms with it yet. my daughter was diagnosed via the heel prick test and is now 15 months old, but it is still hard and i agree that the browns should be allowed privacy to deal with it in their own time.

Take care

I never actually saw the news but my parents told me. I think it wil help us alot, i wish more people did no about cf because then u wouldn't have to explain it to the people you tell because they'll no what it is. + more money will be raised for it which will go towards helping us to find a cure! Yeh i can understand y he didn't wanna cum out with it straight away, u wouldn want the world 2 kno evryting bout ya life wud u? I jus wish me luck 2 the child and hope he has a good healthy life! m x x
