TRANSPLANT CALL

Well I had my 3rd transplant call yesterday at 8.45am which really threw me as the other calls have come late at night. I must be an expert now at getting out the house so quick! I had a police car come and pick me up and whilst Mum and I were whizzing down the M25 at high speeds my Dad followed in his car. I had all the usual tests, sats, blood pressure, temp etc then they took all the bloods. I then had to have the delightful prep scrub like Oli described, not very kind to your skin I must say! Then it was a waiting game in my lovely NHS gown. It seemed to take ages for news, they were doing various tests etc on the lungs and each test they did came back as looking good. The coordinator was coming in and out my room updating me. The time got longer each time she came in with news until it was an hour apart. Eventually at 5.45pm I was given the news that sadly the lungs had shown sign of infection and were therefore no good! It was such a let down as I had really hoped it would be third time lucky. So after a well needed cup of tea with loads of sugar we made our way home via Macdonalds drive thru as I was absolutely starving.

From your and other posts there's a lot of "nearly there" happening.

Although it's not quite the result everyone on here has their fingers crossed for, at least there are calls and it seems maybe all the tonnes of hard work into awareness raising is starting to pay off.

Lots of crossed digits making this difficult to type

Oh how disappointing Lisa. Bless you. I sincerely hope the next call is the one you so desparately need. Three call's and none suitable - must be absolutely crushing. Fingers crossed for a good clean pair next time.

Thank you everyone for your support, it really means a lot. There was another person waiting for a transplant at Harefield yesterday so I am not sure whether his went ahead or not.

All we can do is keep our fingers crossed for everyone waiting.

I'm sorry to hear that yet again you've had a false alarm.
Cross fingers you will be lucky a fourth time and create a new 'saying' at the same time.

I'm sorry it didn't work out, Lisa - what do you say after "third time lucky"...?

Still, as Darling said, at least there seems to be an increase in people willing to donate organs, even if they're not always of the tip-top quality we require!

Thanks Oli,

Yes at least its a good sign that there seems to be a slight increase in donor organs. I just cant believe that out of the three calls I know of just this last week of people attending Harefield that not one was good enough to go ahead.

Anyway peeps stay positive our time will come
