Dnase and the Voice Box?

I've read on here before that DNase makes the voice "husky" after a while, but wondered if anyone had experienced a complete voice loss with using it? Dan only started on his about 2 weeks ago and last night his voice was very croaky on and off and by bed time he was down to a whisper! Everytime he tried to say something, nothing came out!! (actually, could be a good thing - peace! But wouldn't be too good long term and especially at school!) So is it temporary? Time to reduce the DNase? Any experience would be appreciated before I ring the CF Unit later.

I've never had it that bad! Sure it's not a cold? I lost my voice as a child a few times due to viruses and whatnot.

You could try reducing the DNAse, and it may do some good even if it is a virus, but watch out for thickening sputum and signs of viral chestiness!

Take care,

Richard.

In 14 or so years of it it's never done that to me. I do go croaky quickly with colds which may I suppose be exacerbated by the DNAse. Worth keeping an eye on.

TOBI, on the other hand, makes me sound like Barry White

Well I am full of cold and so is hubby (man flu!), so maybe he's getting the germ too, courtesy of Joe! I'll keep an eye on him, or an ear!, over the next couple of days to see how he gets on. Might not even be connected to the DNase, but he's a tad worried about getting a "husky" voice - said he doesn't want to sound like a girlie!

my 12 year old daughter had nearly complete voice loss when on DNAse and she came off it because it wasn't making any obvious difference. As soon as she stopped taking it, the voice came back! Maybe if we had stuck at it a bit longer, the voice would have come back eventually, but yes we've had the same experience. If they try her on DNAse again, it will be interesting to see what happens to her voice next time.

We had that with Tobi when Dylan started it last December, but never with DNAse.

He said he's not interested in the girls and doesn't want to sound like one either! (and what's a thang then?! )

Hi,
Dnase made my voice go husky for a while but it does go away with continuous use. I am also on Tobi and was on 2 vials a day but that made me completely lose my voice and gave me a continual tickly cough, so now only use 1 a day, I still have the symptoms only not as bad.

No wonder he's not into girls if they sound like Barry White in your neck of the woods. Poor lad must be seriously confused!

Not as confused as his mother! He continue's to croak as I type! Sounds like that comedian with the microphone now (can't remember his name!) - voice works one minute and gone the next!

Grace was exactly the same 2 weeks into her DNase, but it got better after another week and she's been fine since

I've never had any trouble with DNASE, TOBI on the other hand is another story...Ditto the Barry White effect!

The physio at Heartlands suggested having a gargle with water after finishing with the neb and I found that helped a bit...might be worth giving it a go with your little man.
