I suppose, since we have a fresh board so to speak, I will be the one to post this (I think there was one on the last board)...

Please use some punctuation when posting here. It is very hard to read a long paragraph with no sentences. Also, I do use abbreviated writing but when one has to read many lines of 'i cam 2 c my m8 this wk b/c he wuz v sic' or something like this, it gets annoying. Thks

There, their, they're I shouldn't worry. Your getting you're knickers in a kerfuffle over nothink

It drives me nuts as does the incorrect use of words and punctuation. It changes the meaning of a posting entirely and often makes no sense at all. I suppose one could always answer all posts literally. Now that would make for some fun replies

It's not just on here that the education system embarrasses itself. From my local paper a few years ago...

"The car was found by two Policemen burning in the street."

Why were the Policemen on fire?

Bring back compulsory Latin and proper grammar tests!

I know my grammer is the best but what I least try to use poper english and not short text. If someone puts a message on here asking for help and it's in short text then most times I can't understand it annd I can't reply.

People can post any which way they want - this is a free country after all! BUT, if they want their post to be read and answered then it will help if they take care over it. It would be well worth writing it as if they were writing a school essay.

Richard.

Judging by standards of current schooling (from what I've read in the media) I don't think they'd be anymore understandable than posting in txtspk anyway.

My English is pretty poor at times, I'm going to admit to that now. I actually don't know the difference between their and there. Something happened in my transfer from primary tosecondary school, which made my knowledge for the English Lanuage and Maths fly out of the window.
I used to be such a good speller, I could work out how to spell any word. Now my spelling is terrible.

I agree with what you mean about punctuation and paragraph's. I'm not vey good with either, but it's better to attempt to add them to your posts than to have nothing there at all.

Get rid of txt spk. It's annoying, and anyone who uses it soley in a post needs shooting with a rocket launcher. The odd occasional word is ok, but all of the time is irratating, and makes a post unreadable.

I also hate it when people type soley in CAPITALS, and Like This All The Way Through A Post, Which Is Supposedly The New Emo Thing To Do.

Gem, 10 second grammar lesson...

If I was describing someone I might say "Their hair is long and they are standing over there".

Their - is to do with people and possession.

There is location and other instances (I'm no teacher as is very obvious!)

NHS cuts - terrible.

I think someone has already given my view, which is essentially that people can (and do) post however they want but that if they're hoping for a reply then it helps if they try and make themselves understood.

I don't mind bad spelling and poor grammar when I think that people are trying their best to express themselves. It's the deliberate use of text-speak that I find difficult; I tend not to reply to these posts as I'm never totally sure that I've understood what the post is about (but then I do text on my mobile phone in complete sentences too!).

PS Totally agree - NHS cuts are shocking

I type on my phone the same way as I type on the internet aswell. I seriously don't see the point in shortening everything down. Chances are you have to send an extra text anyway, to explain what the hell your on about.

Thanks for the English lesson Darling
