ok another idea - have you tried steroids or any antifungal medication for the aspergilous? that can definately cause a wheezy/annoying cough. also the dnase thing for one month on/one month off sounds strange to me - i thought most dnase users are on it all the time (i always have been)?

My son Ryan who is nearly 13 has regular 3 monthly Ivs and we too are finding he needs oral Levofloxicin inbetween(he is allergic to cipro). Ryan usually has Ceftazidime and Gentamicin. This time his IVS were bought forward a month as he got very ill and he was given Ceftazidime and Colomycin IVS as he was growing a different strain of pseudomonas....after 2 weeks he seemed no better so he was given it for a further week along with Steroids for his asthma. He also has neb colomycin and Tobi on alternate months and Dnase every day.He also has oral Augmentin and Fluclox on alternative months We were told that when he started Dnase he wouldn't require IVS every 3 months but since starting it he requires more!!!
We have CF clinic tomorrow and he is still coughing tonight even though he appears alot better. Ryan never usually has a cough unless he has a chest infection so I think he will be given more orals.
Its so upsetting that after 2 or 3 weeks of the stress of IVS the infection is still there!!!

Hi Dawn

I would ask consultant to try different combination of IV antibiotics as she may hav several different strains of Pseudo. Meropenum ( is that how you spell it)seemed to do the trick for P this time after 15 years of Tobra and Ceftaz.
