Not very helpful but I am also due to hav a port put in my arm soon too under a local so I will ditto that question. It will be my first.

I know i will be in and out in one day, but I am worried about the procedure itself and if it will hurt afterwards. I am a bit of a worrier!!

I'm in on Dec 12th at Leeds.

I've had two ports put in under local and both were pain free and easily done. As Lil Raver said, all you can feel is some tugging, but that's it. Having longlines inserted has caused me much more pain and distress in the past.

In fact for my second port i was backpacking round europe only a few weeks later. Don't be too worried, i'm sure it'll go well.

Take care

I've had about 10 locals and there great.. all you feel is the small needle of the local... then...... nothing, its an odd feeling if you can see the area.. knowing some1 is touching or doing something there but you have no response.
it helps the time go quicker, as your not worrying about any pain and by the time the local wares off the underlying feeling in the skin would have worn off too.
My Tip.. close your eyes and relax

I've had locals, for different things. I've had one for my port too. THere was a lot of pulling and tugging. My port was rather stubborn to come out, so took a lot of effort and quite a bit of time too! When the old one was out, they went around the other side and put in a new one. They had me fairly drugged up, so that I was even speaking spanish at one point!

First of all, they sedated me, to get the area ready. Then when they had the injections in for the anesthetic they woke me up again. I have a friend who refused the sedation and they had a panic attack and got rather frightened. So if sedation is offered, I would take it. All in all, you;re a bit sore and stiff after, but tramedol usually does the trick. You'll be grand in no time!

My port was taken out under local, and I couldn't have any sedation as my lungs weren't playing ball. It was nowhere near as bad as I thought, there was some significant pulling and tugging but there was absolutely no pain. Hope that helps

i had my port put in under a local about 4 weeks ago, it was fine as they gave me medazalam to sedate me as i have had one without sedation and it was awful i got my self into a bit of a state, but thats not to say it will be like that for you! the sedation is great makes you feel like your drunk! i was meant to be going home after it but my lungs played up so did my sugars!

all the best!

I had a local to have some teeth out, it did not hurt at all. It is a bit weird tho as you can feel that things are happening but can't quite tell what! I think they'd probably sedate you as well as give you a local to stop you moving about too much. If they do you probably won't remember a thing.... I can't remember my bronchcoscopy at all-fantastic!
