hi, I recently asked Leah's dietician about this, and she said it didn't apply (atleast not to Leah).. Leah weighs just about 19lb ( almost 10 months ) and has around 25 creon per day, we have tried reducing it with disasterous consequences for her pants

however, they are looking into the possibilty of the stomach acid thing for next clinic..

just realised that this doesn't actually help you at all! sorry x

I was told a rough guide is 1 creon per kilo of body weight. This is a very rough guide as all pwcf are different and some needing no creon at all. My daughter needs slightly more than this so we go by the 1 creon per 5g of fat in food as it seems to work best for her.

Hope that helps

We were also told the average was about 1 creon per kg. Ben has slightly less (about 13 creon per day and he weighes 14kg)

Hi,
Noahs consultant goes off every 3.5grams of fat there is it is 1 creon for him! Although reading this that seems alot for him.

It varies from one person to another how much creon is needed. For instance, my brother uses creon 10,000 and I use creon 25,000, but I have to take the same number of capsules as he does - so I need 2.5 times the dose!

That's right! If I took creon 10,000 I'd need as many as 20 capsules with a really big, fatty meal. Taking just 8 is much more practical.

Andy, lucky fellow, needs just 8 creon 10,000 with a really big meal.

Yes, we were told to try to stick with the 1 capsule (Creon 10000) per kilogram of bodyweight because otherwise the Creon can cause problems in the colon and bowel. However, it doesn't always suit. Evan (age 3) weighs about 15-16 kilos, which puts him bang on the middle line of the weight chart, but he takes about 28 Creon 10000 each day. I was concerned about the increasing number of capsules but our CF nurse said that the 1 capsule per kilo bodyweight was fine for a 50-60 kilo teenager or adult, but CF children need almost as many calories as CF adults so the dosage will often be higher for children. Hopefully as Evan grows, his Creon consumption will level off a bit. His new consultant is a bit concerned about it but we'll have to reduce his food to reduce his Creon and he obviously needs all the food he's having just to maintain the middle weight line. We aim for 1 capsule per 3 grams of fat. Hope this helps

Hi there,

I've never heard of Creon dosage being calculated in this way before but it's interesting.

My daughter was started on 1/4 Pancrex as a baby and we moved onto Creon a couple of months later. We just adjust it according to her stools. She has never had a problem gaining weight. I am going to ask about this next time I am at clinic.

Best Wishes
