From New Scientist No2445, 1st May 2004
Curcumin has been found to treat the most common mutation (delta-F508) of CF (in mice). I won't go into the science, but you can find it here: http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994912
Basically, they gave the mice 45mg per kilo of bodyweight of curcumin, which is the chemical which makes turmeric its bright yellow colour. The mice's gut symptoms largely disappeared, and the survival rate almost doubled.
However, this is just a study, and it is unknown whether it will work on humans, since mice with CF don't have the respiratory problems. The US CF Foundation is doing human trials.
But turmeric isn't hard to get hold of, so we don't need Government backing to do trials ourselves for once.
