Unfortunately there is usually a problem with the sperm of men with CF. The sperm normally leaves the testes in a somewhat immature state, and finish maturing during the time spent slowly drifting along the tubes.
There is a minor operation which can harvest sperm directly from the testes but these sperm are frequently immature and have difficulty fusing with an egg, so the much more difficult and less successful procedure of injecting the head of the sperm into the egg is necessary.
All this reduces the chances and increases the costs of having a baby, but IT IS POSSIBLE. I spent some time on a ward with a bloke with CF who at that time had two lovely little four-year-old boys, both bright as buttons and lively as can be.
Hope this helps.
Take care,
Richard.
