my heart goes out to the familys of the 5 dead girls......the person that killed them should be hanged. to take a life should mean life.

this is my feeling ..........

I'm sick of the media referring to them as prostitutes not women. Its as though being a prostitute adds to the titilation and reduces their value as human beings

If it was airline pilots or nurses being murdered they'd call them just that because that's the group being targetted.

Prostitutes are what they are by occupation. I don't think any less of them as human beings for it.

Actually I've noticed how much more responsibly this case has been reported compared to 20 years - yes - I am old enough to remember the Yorkshire Ripper!

I live in the area and our daily lives have been affected by the police roadblocks, the tents at the side of the road covering the bodies, fear, suspicion etc. This is particularly evident in an area where a stereo getting nicked from a car has been known to make the local news!

But there is also a sense of outrage that this can happen - rather than an acceptance that this is somehow a hazard of these girls' lifestyles...and that's different to anywhere I've lived before. I suspect that can make all the difference to the police's work!

In fact, my biggest complaint over the reporting of these crimes is still the local advice that women don't go out after dark unless they have to, go out in groups etc etc. How about we impose a curfew on all the men instead, so that women can go wherever like, whenever they like?!!

I think you are being a touch naive of the media. I suspect the news would read " Five men from Suffolk, all train drivers..." rather than 5 train drivers. Also, they were also drug addicts who funded their addiction through prostitution...not quite the same level of choice as being a nurse or pilot.

Using your suspected press description for men doesn't really change things for the women - "Five women from Suffolk, all prostitutes...". There is still a reference to what they do. Where's the difference? Of course we are neglecting the fact that male prostitution exists and may cause offence to them as their industry is not being recognised.

I didn't mention it being a career choice. I said occupation. How they got there is not relevant. It's a fact that is is what they do.

Why are people up in arms about the description when the issue is that there is some loon out there topping people?

No need to worry about saying "with respect sal", we can have differing views and a good debate. In civilised society that should be accepted

cfdykey after taking several moments trying to decifer what you were trying to say (no good with text talk!) I certainly dont think a comment about 'Mr Kipling jokes' is very appropriate in light of these horrific events, I too like Frizzymum am local to these murders and there are investigations going on regarding past murders which effect people I actually know. Whoever, whatever these girls do for a living is totally immaterial, at the end of the day they are someones loved ones!
