I've started giving this to the whole family for the winter, everyone is happy to take it except Ocean (wcf).

Does anyone know if it works as well when heated/cooked/mixed with a drink? I'm thinking of adding it to his evening milk or something like that, but there's no point if it's not going to work. Google (well Everyclick) didn't come up with much.

I think I saw somewhere that it's best not to take it within an hour or half and hour of having a hot drink, something to do with how it works? As u can see, I'm no expert so I'm sure somebody will give a sensible answer! x

I got some today, that is weird.

I did find this though.

http://www.manukahoney.co.uk/therapeuticuses.html

'All honey has some level of the antibacterial chemical hydrogen peroxide, which is produced by enzymes in the honey. These enzymes are easily destroyed by exposure to heat and light and also by contact with body fluids.'

So from this, I won't be putting mine in warm drinks.

Hope that helps and that you are ok!!

Take care.

xx

Just eating honey will neutralise any hydrogen peroxide in it.

Hydrogen peroxide is a very, very powerful bleach, and is very toxic. The body tends to produce small amounts of it naturally, and is saturated with enzymes that denature it as fast as it is made to protect us from the toxic effects.

You can test this - drip fresh blood or chopped liver into a can of hydrogen peroxide that is bought as bleach and it will fizz violently as the enzymes denature it into water and oxygen! (You can do the same thing with chopped celery, which contains a lot of similar enzymes.)

Therefore, it doesn't matter what hydrogen peroxide happens to be in the honey, it will be denatured the moment it enters the body.

There are OTHTER chemicals in honey which are good for the body, but I don't know how heat tolerant they may be.

Richard.
