Driving Quality

We are committed to ensuring that people with CF have access to high quality, specialist care wherever they live in the UK. With our Medical Advisory Committee, we work with healthcare commissioners and individual doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians and psychologists to make this happen.

Peer Review
In 2006, we introduced a process of Peer Review for specialist CF services to drive up the quality of care for people with CF. This process has so far resulted in the additional investment of £18 million into CF services, which is a great achievement.

In 2011, the Peer Review process was itself reviewed to take account of changes in service provision and commissioning and to take advantage of new technology. The new process will not only help to improve quality, it will also give CF specialists the opportunity to share good practice across services.

Standards of Care and Consensus documents
We work with healthcare professionals to develop standards of care for CF across a range of specialisms, including physiotherapy. We use these standards to measure services as part of the Peer Review process. Our consensus documents focus on particular areas of CF care or research.
